The Whisperer by Karin Fossum Harvill Secker Buy now Pub date JanuISBN 978-1787300941 Price $12. Different from Fossum’s other Inspector Sejer books, the book will appeal to fans of literary crime fiction. ![]() Inspector Sejer stays true to his character with his deep understanding of human nature. Lovecraft put a lot of thought into his monsters. It frightened me so much I even get chills every time someone mentions Vermont to me. Though Fossum has depicted Ragna’s plight with painstaking details and empathy, the narrative becomes tedious at times with Fossum’s unnecessary foray into nitty-gritty of Ragna’s everyday life. With the greatest of respect to the Master of Horror, The Whisperer in Darkness actually made me afraid to sleep with the lights off. Kirkelina shop clerk Ragna Riegel was born to be hurt. It was amazing to read how the elephants eventually were able to trust HIM and seemed to almost understand his words. ![]() 6, 2019 A familiar damsel-in-distress story veers off script into territory that would be too dark for almost anyone but Fossum ( Hell Fire, 2016, etc.). The Whisperer bit in the title, lays claim to the fact the Lawrence had a unique ability to SPEAK to the Elephants, he spoke to them as if he were speaking to another Human. The book is more of a keen psychological study of a person’s loneliness and grief than a regular mystery. THE WHISPERER by Karin Fossum translated by Kari Dickson RELEASE DATE: Aug. ![]() For a single woman, who has no friends or relations and whose estranged son lives in Berlin, Ragna leads a content life as a hard-core hermit until she starts receiving hostile notes in her mailbox. A botched surgery leaves Ragna Riegel with a ragged scar on her neck and only a whisper as a voice. An intriguing, in-depth character study of a social misfit who becomes the target of a series of threatening letters.
